A Chicago-Phoenix Z train has come off the transcon a few miles back at Williams Jct., and passes the depot in Ash Fork used by BNSF as a yard office. About the first 20 miles of the Phoenix sub are on the original ATSF transcon route, pre-Crookton Cutoff. After Ash Fork, the train swings south and mileposts begin at zero.
