When Conrail upgraded the former Kalamazoo Secondary in the mid 1970's it became the preferred route for freight from Michigan into Elkhart, IN. The ribbon rail was a part of that process, today's train with 120+ cars glides over it along US 131, about 15 miles south of Kalamazoo.
